“Starman” is a glam rock song by the outstanding figure in the world of rock and pop music, the famous English musician David Bowie. He wrote the song in 1972 and first released it as a single. Later “Starman” was added to the artist’s concept album (5th) titled “The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars”. Just like the other tracks on the album, the extraterrestrial messenger Ziggy Stardust appears in the “Starman” to speak to the humans, particularly the youth. Musically, some of the song’s features include distinctive acoustic guitar and Mick Ronson’s string arrangement. Among the influences of the song are cited The Wizard of Oz, Bowie’s previous studio work “Hunky Dory” and some of T. Rex’ and Holland-Dozier-Holland’s songs (“Hot Love”, “Telegram Sam”, “You Keep Me Hanging”).
