The blues standard “Nobody Knows You When You're Down And Out” was created by Jimmie Cox in 1923. The song is about the ephemeral nature of wealth and the relationships attracted by it. It became especially popular after the American blues singer Bessie Smith released it as a single in 1929. After that, the song was recorded in all possible music styles. It was performed and covered by such artists as Eric Clapton, Louis Jordan, Sidney Bechet, Janis Joplin, Nina Simone, B. B. King, Rod Stewart and many others.

zuerst hab‘ ich die Version von Eric Clapton gehört. eigentlich glaubte ich, dass es eine Originalversion, aber zu meinem Erstaunen wurde die Komposition bereits in den 20ern geschrieben und ist ein bekannter Bluesklassiker, vielfach gecovert und interpretiert. tolles Stück, gefällt mir sehr gut und passt perfekt zum Lernen.
