Ed Sheeran’s first number-one single “I See Fire” was released in 2013 as the end-credit song for the film “The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug” directed by Peter Jackson. Suggested to Jackson by his daughter, UK singer and songwriter Ed Sheeran wrote and recorded the major part of the song in just one day, being inspired by Tolkien’s works and The Hobbit film itself. “I See Fire” had commercial success: besides occupying high positions in world’s music charts, the song was nominated for Best Original Song at Satellite Awards.

I can't sing as sensually as Ed Sheeran foes but at least I can master I See Fire on guitar!

I believe that was a win-win for both Peter Jackson and Ed Sheeran) A great composition for the film and an even greater spotlight for the artist )

I look up to this guy for his simple and yet so touching lyrics and melodies. Sometimes you really don’t need to complicate things as beauty is in the simplicity… We often played this song on guitar with my friends and that's the most important thing for an artist - his works are accepted and loved by people in casual life

so simple and neutral but sounds so great! that's what i picked for for audition on monday and im so gonna play it well, yay! thanks for the music score (i thought id have to pay way more than that, but it turns out to be very reasonable)

this song kinda grew on me, a very worthy music work. it's exactly how i had imagined the movie to end - perfect music background to see off the viewer. i was even chilling a bit trying to catch every word of the lyrics as long as i was digesting the movie id just watched. good job

Stunning music work! Considering the fact that it was composed and recorded within a few days only, that's real proof of both powerful inspiration and great talent of Ed Sheeran. I think he and The Hobbit film director were really lucky to have found each other. The song has the necessary amount of 'drama' in it but at the same time it's very soft and soothing. Great work.

I read the book and watched all the parts of The Hobbit. That’s one of not many cases when watching the film is no less cooler than reading the original book by Tolkien. The choice of music in The Desolation of Smaug is really great. Too bad that this particular song was used in credits only. I mean it suits there perfectly as the final song but I think it should have deserved more centerstage
