A few things to consider: all voices are in the same octave-flutes & violins usually play higher notes than these low octave writings. Isn't a mandolin like a guitar in that it plays rhythmic figures rather than consecutive chords? Try to think more in form-like A-B-A, this has no breaks or contrast. Just my thoughts to help.
