Reger´s innig-meditative Bearbeitung dieser alten Choralmelodie entspricht ganz dem Zeitgeist der Spätromantik.
Das Stück eignet sich auch als Vorspiel zum Adventlied "Kündet allen in der Not",das die gleiche Melodie hat.
Es sollte auf getrennten Manualen gespielt werden,um die Melodie hervorzuheben.
