Quartet for Saxophones was written for the Clair-Obscur quartet. The opening statement of the unison theme contains the essance of all that is to follow in the three pulsating rythmic cell which is similar to a heartbeat. The final scherzo movement combines these aspects to finish with a final declamation of the initial theme
