A challenging and intense 2.5-minute piano solo in the form of continuous variations on a 4-measure ground bass, using the old technique of "divisions" (the basic unit of rhythmic division goes from quarter-notes to triplet quarters to eighth-notes to 16ths as the variations proceed). Despite the antiquated form of the composition, the harmonies have a somewhat contemporary feel. A span of a tenth in both hands is called for.
