Concertino for Domra and Russian Folk Orchestra was composed in 1978, at the time when the author was studying at the Moscow musical college (now the Alfred Shnitke college) as a domra performer.
It was performed for the first time by the college orchestra in 1979 with Constantine Molchanov as the soloist under conducting of the author Dmitry Capyrin.
In 1979 this composition was awarded with the first prize at the Moscow Young Composers Competition.
That is a lyrically-dramatic character that dominates in the piece. The quick and a bit nervous main part contradicts to the side part, which is lyrically romantic.
Both themes are combined in development and performed together, the main one by domra, and the side one by orchestra.
Introduction plays the special role – it is slow, slightly unreal wind instruments choral, repeating itself before reprise.

This piece attracts me by its true Russian, dashing character. While listening to this music I feel as if I were driving in a coach-and-three along the snow-covered roads. It fills my heart with impetuous energy and optimism.
