Not so long ago I found out that some of my roots on the father’s side go deep to Austria. That was a real discovery that also explained my constant thirst for Austria-born composers, F. Schubert being one of the most listened to. I’m an amateur pianist but I believe I ‘am’ able to spot the great music. When I heard the Hungarian Melody for the first time – I was about 10 years old or so. Needless to say how mesmerized I was, even as a kid that was not quite knowledgeable in music yet. With time, when I grew a real understanding of its ups and downs, the changes in dynamics and the whole ‘story’ behind – I didn’t hesitate to include it into the repertoire and it’s been in there for many years by now, being played for my family and enjoyed during calm evenings. Superb composition.
